Gueset: Suzanne Berkely, Jon Griffiths

  GuePrepared Speeches

Matthew Henderson: - Speech #8 from the Competent Communication Manual, titled – “I Took the Road Less Travelled”. Matthew transported us from the rat-race of everyday life to the tranquility and visual experience of the “bush” – “getting lost”, no, not in the bush but in your mind – soaking up nature.

Christine Pollachini – Christine presented her 1st speech – a practice speech for an up-coming wedding.  Titled: “Toast to the Bride” Christine gave us a sketch into the life of her good friend “Billy”.  Christine focused on an endearing caring characteristic of Billy’s – “I will look after you”; salient not only to Christine but also Billy’ husband-to-be Greg, Christine, with good humour, imparted some words of wisdom to Greg. Well done Christine!

Luis Gigliucci: - Speech #1 Icebreaker from the Competent Communication Manual, titled – “Coming to Australia”. Luis presented us with a detailed account of the process of coming to Australia.  Born in Brazil, Luis started to learn English in the year 2000 as the 1st step in the process of getting to Australia.  It took him until 2007 before he finally arrived.  Along the way he was deterred by good job offers, better job offers, marriage to his wife Danielle and finally the Immigration process.  He has a son 14 months old who was born in Australia.  Well done Luis!

Mike Van: - Speech #1 Icebreaker from the Competent Communication Manual, titled – “One Sentence Describes All”.  Mike spoke powerfully of how we all create our own realty.  He spoke of himself as a “rough diamond, encrusted with crud and dirt” – a metaphor for all the pain/hurt/ frustration and fear that we carry in life that may hold us back or leave us feeling that we are not deserving of better.  How we think about ourselves can be a “self-fulfilling prophecy”, so why not let the brilliance of the diamond show through.  Mike is an aspiring young author who is co-authoring a book in the self-help genre.  Well done Mike!

Gabriel's 4th speech of the Advanced Communicator Manual – Technical Presentations was titled "Mobile Generations". Gabriel displayed excellent teaching skills on a complex technical topic.  We all know what “G” stands for now – “Generation” for those of you who missed out!  Gabriel explained the evolution of mobile phones from 1G (1st Generation) analogue phones to the up-coming 4G (4th Generation) digital phones.  Great audience participation!

Suzanne's 5th speech was from the Competent Communication Manual and titled “Location, Location, Location”.  Suzanne gave an enthralling story of having lived at two different locations (number 34 and number 39) on the same street and how extremely different these environments were for her.  Suzanne captured us with her title and kept us guessing to where this was all leading to – all was revealed and well-rounded in her summary with a few laughs along the way!

Welcome to our newest members of Drummoyne Toastmasters Luis Gigliucci and Louise Bourrigan. We look forward to learning more about you in your icebreaker and watching you grow into better and more confident speakers. Remember we want you to succeed and are all there to support you.

Prepared Speeches

Vince was doing his 3rd speech from the CC Manual “Half-time in the Toastmasters Game”. Vince demonstrated great interactive participation with the audience and made sure that we all fully understood his message, which was to “get going” on those toastmaster goals – do those speeches, engage other members.  Motivate, encourage, give feedback, evaluate, listen and learn.  Well done Vince – we all enjoyed your speech!

Linda inspired us all with her 10th Speech from the CC Manual “You’re the Voice”.  Congratulations Linda on achieving this goal! Linda demonstrated that to inspire others you don’t have to be a CEO or Celebrity with “noble motives”.  You just need to have absolute belief, unwavering support and unconditional love for another.  For Linda, this was her parents.  And when the going got really tough, Johnny Farnham helped with his hit song “You’re the Voice”.

At the end of each Toastmasters year (ending in June) we tally up all the winners from every meeting night and acknowledge the overall winners for the year. When we presented these a few meeting ago some people were absent and these were presented tonight. The awards went to:

Prepared Speeches

Silvia's speech on Flamenco took us on an evocative journey of intrigue from sorrow and pain to joy and happiness. A story with the sounds of Hindu influences, Greek mourners and Roman singers and Moors, Jews and Gypsy's living together. What a fascinating speech!

Rita's speech on Vat Phou – Temple Mountain continued on the educational theme. Interestingly the Hindu background came through again this time in a spritual form illustrating the connection the Sanctuary still has with the spiritual world. And Rita left us to ponder how a new planned tourist road will affect the ancient Sanctuary. Thanks for a intriguing and picturesque presentation!

Mounty's speech "Help drive our dollar further" explained the different types of cars and fuels they use giving us a great insight into the benefits and drawbacks of each. Mounty gave us examples of the best car/fuel combination for each purpose. It's great to see that each fuel type has it's own speciality. Thanks for helping us choose our next car!
